Rare Blue Sea Glass Pendants – Tiny Treasures from Shetland’s Shores

There is something magical about discovering a piece of blue sea glass. Unlike the more common greens, browns and clear pieces, blue sea glass is exceptionally rare, making every find feel like a little celebration.

Each of my blue sea glass pendants begins with a genuine piece of sea glass that has been naturally tumbled by the North Sea for decades. Sadly, one thing that has changed over the years is what I find on the beaches. Decades ago, discarded glass bottles and household items were common enough to eventually become beautiful sea glass. Today, those finds have become increasingly scarce. Instead, I see far more plastic washed ashore than ever before. From tiny fragments of broken plastic to larger pieces carried by the tides, it serves as a reminder of how our waste has changed over the generations. While genuine sea glass has become rarer with each passing year, plastic pollution has become an all-too-common feature of many coastlines.

Every pendant is carefully handcrafted in my Shetland studio to showcase the natural beauty of the glass.
